The TFX-500w ultrasonic transit-time flow meter is used to measure the volumetric flow of water in pipes 10 in. or smaller.  It can be installed without tapping or cutting the pipe. two transducers are used by transit time flow meters which clamp on to the outside of a pipe and do not contact directly to the fluids. The transducers function as both ultrasonic transmitters and receivers. The flow meters operate by alternately transmitting and receiving a frequency-modulated burst of sound energy between the two transducers. First, the burst is transmitted in the direction of fluid flow and then against the fluid flow. Moving liquid transmits sound energy very fast when it travels in the direction of fluid flow than it does when it travels against fluid flow. The sound’s time is measured in both directions.
